A week and a half ago I wrote about the 'new' stitch 'I' developed... I still haven't found any other mention of it anywhere, so I might become famous!
UPDATE!! I just discovered that this stitch is actually TUNISIAN CROCHET! And now that I know this I am even MORE excited over the possibilites!
I was mulling around the possibilities of that stitch and it just so happened that one of my co-Mad Mad Makers wanted some little snake bookmarks! PERFECT!!!
I had an enormous amount of fun designing this little critter, and the pattern is now available in my Ravelry shop. I LOVE the effect of the linked stitches, it brings such a cool texture to this piece.
I thought since this piece will actually feature several members of the chainless foundation stitches, that I would gather the explanations for them right here. I also have links to sites with pictures so you can actually see what is going on. YouTube is a great place for videos too to help you learn new techniques
http://crochetpatterncompanion.blogspot.co.nz/2011/05/which-foundation-stitch.html )
To begin the fslst, chain 2, insert hook in TWO loops of 2nd ch from hook. Yarn over hook and pull up a loop: 2 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook: first fslst stitch made. To make the next fslst: insert hook under the TWO strands along the left side of fslst just made, yarn over and pull up a loop. To complete the fslst: Yarn over and pull through BOTH loops on hook. Avoid "yanking" it tight. Repeat for desired number of foundation stitches.
Foundation single crochet (Fsc) (definition copied from http://www.crochetme.com/glossary/default.aspx)
Start with a slipknot on hook, chain 2, insert hook in 2nd chain from hook, pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 1 loop (the “chain”), yarn over and draw through 2 loops (the single crochet), 1 sc with its own ch st (shaded) at the bottom, *insert hook under 2 loops of the “ch” st of last st and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 1 loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * for length of foundation.
Foundation half double crochet (Fhdc) (definition copied from http://www.crochetme.com/glossary/default.aspx)
Ch 3, yarn over, insert hook in 3rd chain from hook, yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 1 loop (1 chain made), yarn over and draw through all loops on hook—1 foundation half double crochet. *Yarn over, insert hook under the 2 loops of the “chain” stitch of last stitch and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 1 loop, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook; repeat from * for length of foundation.
Linked Foundation Double Crochet (L-Fdc) (UPDATE! This is actually rows of 2 stitches of TUNISIAN CROCHET)
With loop from last stitch made still on hook, insert hook under one strand of the center loop of the last st, yarn over and draw loop through, insert hook into bottom ch of last st made, yo and draw a loop through. Now there are 3 loops on hook, yo and draw through one loop to form the bottom chain, yo, draw through 2 loops twice to complete the dc.
Linked Foundation Treble Crochet (L-Ftr) (UPDATE! This is actually rows of 3 stitches of TUNISIAN CROCHET)
With loop from last stitch made still on hook, insert hook under one strand of the top-center loop of the last st, yarn over and draw loop through, insert hook under one strand of the bottom-center loop of the last st, yarn over and draw loop through, insert hook into bottom ch of last st made, yo and draw a loop through. Now there are 4 loops on hook, yo and draw through one loop to form the bottom chain, yo, draw through 2 loops three times to complete the tr.
Can you see how cool these linked stitches look? If you hadn't read this post you would probably have been stumped to explain what sort of stitch was used!
Now I'm wondering what ELSE can I make?! Do you have some ideas?
Let me know- I love to hear from you.
